The Republic of Indonesia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 28, 1991 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on September 24, 1992.

The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev signed a Decree on the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Indonesia on April 16, 2004 and with another Decree signed on September 13, 2005 Ibrahim Hajiyev was appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Indonesia.

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan was established in Jakarta, on February 1, 2006 and it was the first Embassy of Azerbaijan opened in Southeast Asia. After four years the Republic of Indonesia established its Embassy in Baku on December 2, 2010.

Azerbaijan and Indonesia enjoy strong and trusted partnership, including mutual political support based on bilateral ties of brotherhood and friendship. Two countries cooperate very actively in international organizations and always support each other in UN, OIC, NAM and other international organizations. Both countries recognize and support their territorial integrities and sovereignties within their internationally recognized borders. Azerbaijan has always supported brother nation of Indonesia with humanitarian assistance when it was experiencing difficult days as a result of natural disasters.

Wide-ranging bilateral relations between two countries are expanding across many spheres. Both sides promote mutual investment and trade, cooperation in the tourism sector, expansion of educational and cultural relations, and establishment of relations between the regions of Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

Bilateral cooperation in the field of public services is one of the rapidly developing fields between two countries. Azerbaijan is sharing experiences of its own establishment and brand, called the “ASAN Service”, which is a “One Stop Shop” system for all public services under one roof.

Promotion of cooperation between universities and educational institutions of Azerbaijan and Indonesia is one of the significant areas that kept in focus and since 2018, Azerbaijan provides scholarships for all higher education levels in its universities for citizens of member countries of the OIC and the Non-Alignment Movement where Indonesia is also member.

Azerbaijan places great importance to the further development of economic cooperation with Indonesia and in this context backs expanding of the legal framework between two countries.

Important high-level visits and meetings

On December 9-13, 1996, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated at the 24th Conference of Foreign Ministers of the ICT (OIC) held in Jakarta, the capital of the Republic of Indonesia, and met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. During the meeting, Ministers discussed perpectives of development of bilateral relations agreed on cooperation within the framework of the UN and ICT (OIC).

On October 29 - November 1, 1997, the Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office, Sheikhulislam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, participated in the 6th conference of ministers of religious affairs of Muslim countries held in Indonesia.

On December 8-11, 1997, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia at the 8th Summit of ICT (OIC) countries held in Tehran, Islamic Republic of Iran. During the meeting, Ministers discussed perpectives of development of bilateral relations and multulateral cooperation within the framework of the UN and ICT (OIC).

On July 2004, a delegation led by Sanusi, head of the South and Central Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, visited our country. The main purpose of the visit was the discussion of the draft bilateral agreements on the agenda. On July 20, 2004, these issues were discussed during the meeting with Deputy Minister of FA Khalaf Khalafov. Beside this, Indonesian diplomat held meetings at the Ministry of Taxes of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ministry of Economic Development and AZAL State Concern.

On September 24, 2004, during the 59th session of the UN General Assembly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Hasan Virayuda signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

On March 18-21, 2005, personal representative of the President of the Republic of Indonesia N. Sutresna visited Azerbaijan. N. Sutresna, who brought the letter of invitation to the Asia-Africa Summit to the President of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan A. Azimov.

On April 22-23, 2005, Yagub Eyyubov, First Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan, participated at the "Asia-Africa 2005" Summit, organized by the Republic of Indonesia and the Republic of South Africa in Jakarta.

On April 6-12, 2006, the Azerbaijani delegation led by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population Tahir Budagov participated in the 62nd meeting of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) held in Jakarta.

On June 19-21, 2006, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Hasan Virayuda visited the Republic of Azerbaijan to participate in the 33rd conference of ICT (OIC) MFA heads held in Baku.

On September 9-12, 2006, Mukhlis Paenin, chief advisor of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, participated in the 5th Conference of Tourism Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Conference held in Baku.

On March 26-28, 2007, Abbas Valibayov, Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Samir Abdullayev, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of Health, participated in a high-level meeting on the prevention of the spread of bird flu, organized by the Indonesian government and the World Health Organization in Jakarta, and a meeting of experts on the preparation of the meeting.

On November 21-24, 2007, the Azerbaijani delegation led by Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov participated in the 2nd annual meeting and general meeting of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Agencies held in Bali.

On December 9-14, 2007, Aslan Aslanov, the general director and Nazim Khidyrov, the editor-in-chief of the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency, participated in the meeting of the Organization of News Agencies of the Asia-Pacific States held in Jakarta. During the visit, on December 13, 2007, General Director of AzerTAc A. Aslanov and General Director of Antara News Agency Ahmed Mukhlis Yusuf signed a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of information exchange between the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency and the Indonesian National News Agency.

On December 13-20, 2007, Rusli Rashid, Secretary General of the Committee on Russia and CIS countries of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Arun Taneca, Director of International Relations of "Indorama" Company, visited Azerbaijan in order to explore the possibilities of cooperation.

On January 28-February 1, 2008, the Azerbaijani delegation led by Ramiz Rzayev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the 2nd session of the Conference of the member states that ratified the UN Convention against Corruption held in Bali.

On March 31 - April 2, 2008, the Indonesian delegation headed by Hendarman Supandji, Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia participated in the meeting of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities held in Baku.

On May 11-12, 2008, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Hasan Virayuda paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the visit, Mr. H. Virayuda was received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov, Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan Artur Rasizade and held official talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov. At the same time, the Indonesian minister participated in the Azerbaijan-Indonesia business forum organized by the Fund for Exports and Investments Promotion Agency of Azerbaijan. During the visit, Foreign Ministers of the two countries signed the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports”.

On June 18-20, 2008, the delegation headed by Priyo Budi Santoso, the head of the Golkar party faction in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, participated in the ceremonial events held in Baku on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the establishment of the Parliament of Azerbaijan.

On November 26-29, 2008, a delegation of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Fund visited Indonesia to participate in the "South and Central Asia: Joint Promotion of Trade-Investments and Business Forum" held in Balikpapan. On November 28 the Azerbaijani delegation held meetings at the Coordinating Ministry of Economy of the Republic of Indonesia, at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as at the Investment Coordinating Council.

On June 21-24, 2009, the Indonesian-Azerbaijani Inter-Partiamentary Friendship Group in the Indonesian House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia visited Azerbaijan, and held meetings with First Deputy Chairman of the Milli Majlis Ziyafat Askerov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev, Chairman of  Azerbaijan-Indonesia Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation in the Milli Majlis. the head of the group Bakhtiyar Aliyev and with the members of the International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Rommittee of the parliament; laid wreaths at the grave of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the Alley of Martyrs, visited the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the University of Azerbaijan Languages and the Sangachal oil terminal.

On October 29, 2009, a delegation led by Rovnag Abdullayev, president of the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan, visited Indonesia and discussed mutual cooperation issues with the leadership of "Pertamina" oil and gas company.

On March 4-8, 2010, K. Heydarov, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan visited the Republic of Indonesia.

On April 20-23, 2010, the delegation of the Indonesian Parliament headed by the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Pramono Anung Vibowo visited the Republic of Azerbaijan. During the visit, the delegation received by Chairman of Milli Majlis O. Asadov, Minister of Foreign Affairs E. Mammadyarov, Minister of Economic Development S. Mustafayev and Minister of Culture and Tourism A. Garayev. The delegation held a number of meetings in the Milli Majlis.

On May 11, 2010, a presentation ceremony of the book "View of Azerbaijan from Indonesia" dedicated to the 87th anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, published by our embassy in Bahasa Indonesia and English, held in Jakarta.

On September 19-21, 2010, Sunarso, the head of the Executive Agency of Indonesia's Sidoarco Mudflow Management Agency, and Karyadi, the Deputy Head of the Agency for Infrastructure, visited Azerbaijan to exchange knowledge and technology in the field of mudflow prevention, and held meetings at the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and Baku State University.

On February 21, 2011, an event dedicated to the 19th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide held at the Kharisma Bangsa Global Education Center in Indonesia. At the event, organized an exhibition of books and publications dedicated to the Khojaly genocide, Khojaly genocide, shown the film "The Khojaly Genocide", and presented the updated www.justiceforkhojaly.org website of the "Justice to Khojaly" campaign.

On April 7-9, 2011, Surya Yogo, adviser to the Indonesian Minister of Culture and Tourism, Vahyu Varsila, deputy head of UNESCO Department, Abdul Khauk, head of the foreign relations department of The Jakarta Post and Oscar Motuloh, photojournalist of National News Agency (ANTARA) participated at the World Intercultural Dialogue Forum held in Baku.

On May 25-27, 2011, Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan paid working trip to Indonesia to participate in the 16th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Bali. Minister expressed his gratitude to all member states for the support and assistance given to Azerbaijan as a full member of the NAM. Elmar Mammadyarov held a bilateral meeting with Marty Natalegava, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and discussed the support to the candidacy of Azerbaijan to the Non-Permanent Membership of the UN Security Council for 2012-2013 and other bilateral issues.

On October 18-21, 2011, Chief Judge of the Indonesian Constitutional Court Muhammad Mahfud visited our country. During the visit, M.Mahfud held meetings with Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan F.Abdullayev and Chairman of the Milli Majlis O.Asadov.

On November 20-22, 2011,  delegation of the Investment Coordinating Office of Indonesia visited Baku in order to discuss the draft agreement "On the protection and promotion of investments between the Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of Indonesia".

On January 24-25, 2012, the working group of the Milli Mejlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan headed by MP Govhar Bakhshaliyeva participated in the ICT inter-parliamentary meeting held in Palembang.

On June 22-23, 2012, six-person delegation from Indonesia participated in the "17th meeting of the Standing Committee of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties" held in Baku. The delegation was headed by Theo Leo Sambuag, deputy chairman of the Golkar party, which is part of the ruling coalition of Indonesia.

On September 16-18, 2012, Hatta Rajasa, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, of the Republic of Indonesia visited Baku by the invitation Shahin Mustafayev, Minister of Economic Development of Republic of Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the visit, the Indonesian Minister was received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev on September 17. Also, during the visit, Hatta Rajasa met with Minister of Energy and Industry Natig Aliyev, and a business forum of businessmen of the two countries was held.

On October 4, 2012, Muhammad Mukhlis Yusuf, head of the Indonesian ANTARA information agency, Hasan Virayu, Hasan Virayuda, member of the President's Advisory Council (former Minister of Foreign Affairs) and Nurhayati Ali Assegaf, chairman of the Democratic Party faction in the House of Representatives of the Indonesian Parliament took part in the Baku International Humanitarian Forum held in Baku.

On November 7-10, 2012, delegation led by Yavar Jamalov, Minister of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the "INDODEFENCE 2012" exhibition held in Jakarta.

On November 8-10, 2012, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ogtay Asadov paid an official visit to Indonesia by the invitation of the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Marzuki Ali.

On December 19-21, 2012, Irman Gusman, Chairman of the Regional House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia visited the Republic of Azerbaijan by the invitation of the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov. Within the framework of the visit the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev received Mr.I.Gusman, on December 20. Also, Irman Gusman, held a meeting at the Azerbaijan University of Languages.

On January 14-16, 2013, Marshal Eris Herriyanton, General Secretary of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia visited the Republic of Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the visit Minister of Defense of the Republic of Azerbaijan Safar Abiyev received Marshal E. Herriyanton, on January 15. During the meeting, issues related to the military cooperation between the two countries were discussed. The guest also held a meeting at the Ministry of Defense Industry of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On February 17-22, 2013, a delegation led by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farhad Abdullayev, consisted of the judge of the court Jeyhun Garachayev and the Secretary General Rauf Guliyev visited Indonesia by the invitation of Muhammad Mahflud, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia. Within the framework of the visit, F.Abdullayev held a wide-ranging meeting with his colleague M.Mahflud. F.Abdullayev also met with Marzuki Ali, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Indonesian Parliament, Irman Gusman, Chairman of the Regional House of Representatives of the Indonesian Parliament, Tofik Kimas, Chairman of the People's Consultative Council of the Parliament, Muhammad Hatta Ali, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the country, Eman Suparman, the Chairman of the Judicial Commission, Amir Shamsuddin, Minister of Law and Human Rights. held meetings. During the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between the Constitutional Courts of the two countries was signed. Then a joint session of the Azerbaijan-Indonesia Constitutional Courts was held.

On April 15-18, 2013, delegation led by M. Alien, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia visited Azerbaijan. During the visit, the delegation was received by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and Chairman of the Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov.

On March 18-19, 2013, Harry Purwanto, deputy head of Indonesia's National Anti-Terrorism Agency, visited Azerbaijan to participate in the International Conference on "Strengthening Cooperation for the Prevention of Terrorism" held in Baku.

On May 21-26, 2013, delegation of the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia visited Baku to participate in the 11th Annual Conference of the Parliamentary Network of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund held.

On October 9, 2013, Indonesian observer group participated in the presidential elections held in Azerbaijan. Member of the group, Executive Vice-President for international cooperation and legal issues of the Indonesian National Sports Committee, Ambassador Immanuel Robert Inkirivang met with the Minister of Sports and Youth of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Azad Rahimov, on October 11.

On November 7-8, 2013, Elmar Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the VI Bali Democracy Forum on the Indonesian island of Bali.

On November 17-21, 2013, the delegation of the Indonesia-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Indonesian Parliament visited Azerbaijan. During the visit, the guests held a number of meetings in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On September 13-22, 2014, a delegation of students and teachers of Global Jaya International School (GJİS) of Indonesia visited Azerbaijan. During the visit, the guests participated in classes with the students of school No. 6 of Baku and stayed with Azerbaijani families during the visit.

On April 19-25, 2015, the delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan headed by First Deputy Prime Minister Yagub Eyyubov participated at the "Asia-Africa Summit" held in Indonesia  

On April 19-25, 2015, Natig Aliyev, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated as a special guest at the World Economic Forum held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

On June 5-6, 2015 the delegation headed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Sudirman Said, paid a visit to Azerbaijan. During the visit, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev had received Mr. S. Said Within the framework of S. Said’s visit, Joint Declaration was signed between the Ministries of Energy of Azerbaijan and Indonesia.

On September 22-26, 2015 Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ADA University and Education and Training Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia during the annual conference of the International Forum of Diplomatic Academies held in Warsaw.

On September 21-24, 2015 Chairman of the National Commission on Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Nur Kholis paid a visit to Azerbaijan.

On August 8-12, 2016 delegation headed by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Farhad Abdullayev, paid a visit to Indonesia in order to participate in the 3rd Congress of the Assosiation of the Asian Constitutional Courts held on the island of Bali under the headline “Protection and provision of constitutional rights of citizens”.

On February 18-24, 2017 delegation of Indonesia-Azerbaijan interparliamentary friendship group functioning in the Parliament of the Republic of Indonesia paid a visit to Azerbaijan.

On May 8-12, 2017 delegation headed by the Director-General of Baku International Sea Trade Port LLC Mr. Taleh Ziyadov took part in the 30th World Conference of International Port Association held in Bali. Within the framework of the conference, Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the Baku International Sea Trade Port and the Indonesia Port Corporation was signed.

On July 24-26, 2017 delegation headed by the Chairman of the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Inam Karimov paid a visit to Indonesia. During the visit, Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the provision of progressive public services was signed between the State Agency for Public Service and Social Innovations under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms of the Republic of Indonesia.

On September 9-12, 2017, delegation headed by the Chairman of the Second Commission of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia Zainudin Amali paid a visit to Azerbaijan.

On September 26-28, 2017, delegation headed by the Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Indonesia for the countries Middle East and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Mr. Alwi Shihab paid a visit to Azerbaijan.

On April 5-6, 2018, delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Indonesia Mr. Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir paid a visit to Azerbaijan to attend the Mid-Term Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku.

On April 19, 2018, President of the Republic of Indonesia H.E. Mr. Joko Widodo sent a congratulatory letter to President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev on the occasion of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries on September 24, 1992.

On September 11-16, 2018, Minister of Culture and Education of the Republic of Indonesia Muhajir Effendi visited Azerbaijan to attend the Third Indonesian Festival in Baku. During the visit, Mr. Effendi met with Minister of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev, Minister of Education Ceyhun Bayramov and Rector of the Azerbaijan University of Languages Kamal Abdulla.

On January 17, 2019, the 2nd Indonesian-Azerbaijani Political Planning Dialogue was held in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Delegation of Indonesia attending the event, was headed by Director General of the Policy Analysis and Development Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia  Mr. Siswo Pramono. During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the strengthening of cooperation in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres and the possible mutual steps taken in this direction.

On June 20, 2019 the first videoconference was held with the participation of high-ranking officials of the relevant state institutions of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Indonesia on the topic "Expansion of mutual economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Indonesia".

On October 8, 2019, the second video conference on "Expanding mutual cooperation in the field of tourism between Azerbaijan and Indonesia" was held.

On November 24-28, 2019, delegation headed by Brigadier General I Putu Eka Asmara, head of the International Military Cooperation Department of the General Directorate of Defense Strategy of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Indonesia, visited Azerbaijan to discuss the prospects of bilateral cooperation.

On April 3, 2021, the Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Indonesia was signed in virtual format.

On March 22-23, 2022, within the framework of the 48th Meeting of OIC Foreign Ministers held in Islamabad, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with Abdul Kadir Jailani, Head of the Directorate General for Asian and African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

On December 6, 2022, the 3rd bilateral political consultations - "3rd Political Planning Dialogue" were held between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Foreign Policy Strategy Agency of the IR MFA) in Jakarta. In the consultations, the delegations were represented by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Elnur Mammadov from Azerbaijan, and from the other side, the head of the Foreign Policy Strategy Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, director general Dr. Yayan was directed by GH Mulyan.

On July 5-6, 2023, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia for Multilateral Cooperation, Ambassador Tri Tharyat participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Coordinating Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Baku.

On 10 August 2023, Delegation headed by Mr. Farhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Constitutional Court attended International Chief Justice Forum dedicated to the 20th Anniversary of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia held in Jakarta 

On October 9-11, 2023, the Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reforms of the Republic of Indonesia Abdullah Azwar Anas visited the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On November 23, 2023, the Minister of Manpower of Indonesia Ida Fauziyah participated in the 5th conference of labor ministers of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Baku. The conference was held on November 21-23, 2023.

On December 5, 2023, Chairman of International Relations Commission, Council of Indonesian Ulama Saptomo Bunyan visited the Community of Western Azerbaijan during his participation in the International Conference on “Enabling the Safe and Dignified Return of Azerbaijanis Expelled From Armenia: Global Context and Just Solution” (5 December)

Chairmen of Parliaments

On November 8-10, 2012, Chairman of the Milli Mejlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ogtay Asadov paid an official visit to Indonesia.

On April 15-18, 2013, Chairman of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Marzuki Alie paid a visit to Azerbaijan.

On September 19-22, 2018, Chairman of the Regional Representative Council of Indonesia H.E. Oesman Sapta took part in the events held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Parliament of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

On January 31, 2023 a meeting was held between the members of the Azerbaijan-Indonesia inter-parliamentary relations working group and the Indonesia-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group in the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On 12 March 2023, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova met with the Secretary General of ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Siti Rozaimeriyanti Dato Haji Abdul Rahman as part of her business visit to Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain. At the end of the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly.

On August 5-10, 2023, the delegation of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan led by Mr. Kamran Bayramov, member of the Milli Majlis attended the 44th Session of the General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (AIPA) held in Jakarta.

the 44th session  Azerbaijan was represented at this prestigious event by Kamran Bayramov, deputy of the Milli Majlis, and Elmar Huseynov, assistant to the chairman of the Milli Majlis.

On September 22, 2023, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Mrs. Sahiba Gafarova received the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Fadli Zon.

On February 20-24, 2024, a delegation led by the Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Fadli Zon, visited Azerbaijan in the frames of the 14th plenary session of the Asian Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Baku. 

On May 3, 2024, AIPA Secretary General Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman and ASEAN Peace and Reconciliation Institute Executive Director Gusti Agung Vesaka Puja visited BSU.

Ministers of Foreign Affairs

On May 11-12, 2008, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Mr. Hassan Wirajuda paid an official visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

On May 25-27, 2011, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov paid a visit to Indonesia to attend the 16th Ministerial Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement held in Bali.

Culture

On November 19-20, 2016, the 1st Indonesian Cultural Festival in Baku was held.

On September 9-10, 2017, the 2nd Indonesian Cultural Festival in Baku was held.

On September 11-16, 2018, the 3rd Indonesian Cultural Festival in Baku was held. 

For the first time Indonesia, represented by the "Sendja Community" attended the 7th Kharibulbul International Music Festival and "Shusha-the Capital of the Islamic World 2024",  co-organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture held at the Jidir Duzu plain in Shusha on 12 May 2024.

Education

In 2010, Indonesian Research Center was established at Azerbaijan University of Languages.

On March 14, 2013, Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Baku State University and Sumatra University.

In September 2015, Memorandum of Understanding was signed between ADA University of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Education and Training Center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.

On December 17, 2018, delegation headed by the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Indonesia Mr. Bambang Wibawarta paid a visit to Azerbaijan. Within the framework of the visit, Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation was signed between Azerbaijan University of Languages and University of Indonesia.

The delegation of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta State Islamic University had a meeting at the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology in frames of its visit to Azerbaijan. (27.05.2024). The delegation of Sharif Hidayatullah Jakarta State Islamic University of Indonesia visited the Baku State University (29.05.2024)

Humanitarian aid

In 2005, under the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan humanitarian assistance in the amount of 1 million US dollars was provided to the Republic of Indonesia in connection with earthquake and tsunami on December 26, 2004.

In 2006 under the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan humanitarian assistance in the amount of 100 thousand US dollars was provided to the Republic of Indonesia in connection with earthquake.

In 2009 under the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan humanitarian assistance in the amount of 30 thousand US dollars was provided to the Republic of Indonesia in connection with the earthquake on the West Sumatra Island.

On October 3, 2018, under the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 50 thousand US dollars of humanitarian aid was provided to the Republic of Indonesia in connection with the earthquake on August 5, 2018 on Lombok island in the east of Indonesia.

On November 8, 2018, under the instruction of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, 50 thousand US dollars of humanitarian aid was provided to the Republic of Indonesia in connection with the earthquake on Sulawesi island of Indonesia on September 28, 2018.

Economic cooperation

On February 1-2, 2016 Azerbaijan-Indonesia Energy Forum was held in Baku. 

On April 30, 2021 Memorandum of Understanding on energy cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia.

On March 14 2023, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Samir Sharifov, met with Tarik Niyazi, director of the public administration, financial sector and trade department of the Central and Western Asia Department of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), who was on a visit to our country.

• Memorandum on cooperation in the fields of labor, employment and social protection between the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia (was approved by Decree No. 2165 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated 03.06.2023)
